Accommodation overview: With its six en-suite bedrooms, this heavily beamed, impressive Grade II listed, cruck-beamed barn stands tucked away in tranquil meadows, on the owners’ 200-acre farm. The barn enjoys magnificent views over the surrounding countryside towards the Forest of Dean. The medieval cruck-beamed wing, open to full height, was built in the 15th century and now makes up the living area with gallery. The heavily beamed 16th-century wing has been thoughtfully restored to provide comfortable en-suite accommodation. The barn is particularly suitable for family holidays and reunions, and the dining area is perfect for entertaining. There is a large mature garden where seating is provided in quiet spots to fully appreciate the views and bird life. Colourful trees and shrubs lead the way to a 1-acre games lawn (shared with owners) where croquet, garden skittles, sandpit and a children’s play area can be enjoyed. There are walks from the door in this area of Great Landscape Value.
Hereford (12 miles) offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The cider industry here is very prolific and enthusiasts should visit local cider makers and Hereford Cider Museum. Other places of interest include Hereford Cathedral, Mappa Mundi Centre and the chained library. The Herefordshire/Welsh borderland offers an excellent range of walks suitable for all ages and levels and enjoys fabulous panoramic views with many historic castles and beautiful ancient churches to explore. Ross-on-Wye, 8 miles, with 17th-century Market Hall is an ideal start for exploring the Forest of Dean. Monmouth, 6 miles. Symonds Yat, 8 miles. Welsh border, 1 mile. Accommodation overview: In a hidden valley, surrounded by fields on every side, with red kites, buzzards and ravens circling above and with views of the Preseli Hills to the west, these peaceful holiday properties (refs OWV, OWU & OWW) are close to so much in west Wales. Fron Isaf Cottages nestle within the owners’ beautiful grounds and have been sensitively converted from old slate and stone barns into cosy and attractive holiday accommodation. The stunning indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi make these very special properties. Each cottage has its own outdoor area with private seating and a barbecue. In addition there is a large mature garden with a decked seating area perfect for enjoying the rural views and watching the sun set over the Preselis.
The properties’ environmental credentials are strong. Water comes from a spring and much of the heating and hot water is from a geothermal source. Guests can also enjoy eggs from the owners’ free range chickens. A footpath leads directly from the cottages providing circular walks of varying length in the surrounding countryside.
The nearest town is Narberth, with its wonderful shopping opportunities. About half an hour’s drive to the south are Tenby, Saundersfoot and Amroth with their glorious beaches. While half an hour to the north the dramatic Pembrokeshire and Cardigan coastlines offer beautiful bays, sandy beaches and market towns like Newport, with its excellent restaurants and many good pubs. Carmarthen and Haverfordwest are half an hour away and both towns have a good range of shops, supermarkets and a market. Tourist attractions like Oakwood, Folly Farm, Anna’s Welsh Zoo, Blue Lagoon Water Park as well as The National Botanic Garden of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens and St. Davids - Britain’s smallest city - make for a good day out. There are also at least seventeen castles to visit within an hour’s drive. Excellent walking in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and on the coast path, as well as activities like golfing, sailing, fishing, cycling and horse riding are plentiful in the area.
