Day trips to Ireland can be enjoyed, the ferry crossing takes 1.5 hours.

This is a quiet and very scenic location in the heart of some of the most spectacular scenery in the Highlands. Glen Affric is one of the most majestic glens leading out of the village of Cannich, which is 1/2 mile from the park with village store and pub/hotel. This is an ideal situation for touring the north and west Highlands, Loch Ness is only a short drive and there are numerous beauty spots and forestry walks/ trails to be enjoyed. The area is well known for its sporting activities which include climbing, stalking, fishing, pony trekking, walking and cycling. For less strenuous activities, this is a popular spot for bird watching, photography and painting. This unique habitat of glens, lochs and Ancient Caledonian Pine Forests is home to many rare species including pine marten, otters, red squirrels, buzzards and the majestic golden eagle. The chalets are surrounded by safe grassed areas for playing and there is a barbecue area, childrens adventure playground and mountain bike hire. Accommodation overview: Killearn, a semi-detached former fisherman's cottage, has been lovingly extended to offer a very spacious, bright holiday home, which is warm, welcoming and has all the amenities of home. There are stunning views over the harbour and across the Dornoch Firth. Sliding doors in the dining room open onto the patio and walled garden, a perfect suntrap, with garden furniture and a barbecue. The children's playground and the beach are just steps away.
Killearn is centrally located in the charming village of Portmahomack. The 'Port', as it is affectionately known to the locals, dates back to the Vikings and Picts and has a long fishing history. Small local fishing boats still share the waters with sailboats, windsurfers and, quite often, pods of dolphins. There are two small hotels as well as an excellent seafood restaurant. The crescent-shaped sandy beach is a playground for children and the local 9-hole golf course welcomes visitors, but for those who want to venture further, Tain Golf Course and Royal Dornoch are just a short drive away. Portmahomack is an ideal base for exploring the nearby Tarbet Ness Lighthouse, Tarbet Discovery Centre and the work of local potters and weavers. The world famous Glenmorangie Distillery is only 15 minutes away. Inverness is 50 mins by car. For a day trip, head north to John O'Groats or across to the West Coast.
