Accommodation overview: Cowrie Cottage is a pretty, traditional stone fishermans cottage situated just a few steps from beaches of Portknockie. In China and Africa they were used as currency (the Chinese character for money is a cowrie shaped shell) and these marine gastropods are still sought by collectors today. There is a collection of these tiny, ribbed shells left in the cottage and visitors are welcome to add to the collection (or take their finds home as a unique memento!). The caring owners have upgraded and refurbished this lovely cottage over the years and it now provides a high standard of accommodation, whilst retaining many attractive original features, including stripped pine doors.
