Romantic Haughton Castle, a Grade 1 listed building, dates from the peaceful era of 1260. The Castle faces parkland on one side, and a spectacular view across farmland with the North Tyne below. Guests may walk on the estate land and are encouraged to use the beautiful river walks along 2 miles of the beautiful North Tyne river, part of the estate. Guests are welcome to use the tennis court at The Castle by arrangement with the owners.
Hadrian's Wall is only a 5 minute drive away and the historic market town of Hexham with its 12th century Abbey is just 5.5 miles. The North Pennines, Northumbrian coast as well as Durham and North Cumbrian attractions are all within easy access.
The castle is not open to the public. However, the owner has indicated that he would be happy to show guests around, subject to it being practicable at the time. Please avoid the areas marked Private in front of the castle.
Haughton Castle Farm House is situated upriver on a very small, quiet public lane approximately half a mile from the entrance to Haughton Castle. It has an elevated position approx 40 metres from the River Tyne. The attractive stone Farm House has lovely views over pastures and woodland down to the river and is centrally heated throughout. The lawned garden area has garden furniture, a barbecue and overlooks the river North Tyne, with attractive riverside walks. There is a second sitting area on the other side of the house with patio equipment.
