Accommodation overview: Dating from 1875, the 'Georgian Retreat' is a holiday cottage of unique character and charm. It is delightfully situated on the ground floor of the owners' detached 'B' listed Georgian villa in the heart of Edinburgh's popular seaside resort of Portobello. Completely self-contained with a private rear entrance, this relaxing property has a warm, homely atmosphere. From the sitting room a patio door opens directly into the lovely walled garden, a sheltered sun trap, complete with 500 year old pear tree and garden furniture on the lawn (the garden is shared with the owners.) All rooms are on one level after 5 steps to the entrance. Free street parking.
The property is conveniently located a few minutes walk from the promenade and long sandy beach and close to excellent local amenities. Historic Portobello has lots to offer including indoor swimming pool with fitness centre, spa and sauna, children's playgrounds, indoor bowls, shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. There is an excellent day/night bus service into the centre of Edinburgh (3 miles).

Adjoining the owners' home the cottages sit just a mile from the beautiful beach of Coldingham Sands a perfect secluded gem where Gosmount Farm visitors also enjoy use of the owners' beach hut. Diving enthusiasts are drawn to the area's clear offshore waters and the coastline affords visitors glorious walking: those heading south to the little town of Eyemouth (3½ miles by road) can take a boat trip from its attractive working harbour or feed the wild seals whilst 2 miles to the north lies the quaint fishing village of St Abbs and the St Abb's Head nature reserve famously provides spectacular clifftop walks. The splendid city of Edinburgh is only an hour's drive or 45 minutes by train from the historic town of Berwick upon Tweed (11 miles). Shops and pubs in Coldingham ½ mile.

Edinburgh is approximately 1/2 hour by car. Gullane has a selection of shops and friendly hotels serving food.

The coastline abounds with glorious unspoilt beaches and both sea fishing and seal spotting boat trips depart from the harbour at Dunbar. Home to Concorde and many other aircraft the Museum of Flight (9 miles) is well worth exploring and at the Seabird Centre at North Berwick visitors can watch the puffins nesting on Bass Rock or gannets diving into the sea. Musselburgh Racecourse (24 miles) offers a great day out and horse riding tennis cycle hire and an indoor swimming pool are all found in and around Dunbar (1 mile) which also offers a selection of shops pubs and restaurants as well as a station for the 20 minute train journey to the centre of beautiful Edinburgh city.

Accommodation overview: The village of Belhaven, on the outskirts of the Royal Burgh of Dunbar, provides a peaceful retreat with lovely countryside and sea shore walks. This is one of the 3 areas in Scotland renowned for the longest hours of sunshine and the lowest rainfall. The lovely sandy beach of Belhaven Bay is within 100 yards and leads to the John Muir Country Park, a conserved wildlife habitat with extensive woodland walks. Dunbar has a lovely swimming/leisure pool and 2 golf courses.
This traditional sandstone cottage has been completely modernised and an architect designed extension provides spacious and light living areas.
