Bakers Farm Oast details

A beautiful detached oast house, recently converted, and furnished to a high standard. Set in a rural position in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Sussex/Kent border. Located within the grounds of a larger property, the oast has its own private and spacious lawned garden overlooking the surrounding fields and paddocks. There is a south-west facing terrace, perfect for outside dining and barbecues. The pond to the side of the oast is not for guest use and is fenced off and safe for children. Wildlife is abundant, and sightings have included deer, foxes, badgers, and many species of birds including kingfishers, and barn owls.

Ideally located just 10 minutes walk by footpath from Bewl Water, the largest lake in the south-east of England. With a 13 mile circular path, Bewl offers beautiful waterside walks all year round and is very popular for birdwatching. The perimeter path is also open to horses and cycles in the summer months (usually from April to October). The lake offers great sporting facilities including sailing, windsurfing, rowing, canoeing and one of the country’s top trout fisheries.

For golfers, Dale Hill Golf Club is just 5 minutes drive away and offers 2 18-hole courses in 350 acres. Dale Hill also benefits from a leisure club with gym and indoor pool. Both the golf and leisure clubs are open to day members.

There are two country pubs, both full of character and within walking distance – The Bull, 5 minutes away in the hamlet of Three Leg Cross and The Bell, 20 minutes away in the village of Ticehurst, both serving very good local food, wines and beers. Ticehurst also boasts a general store, Post Office, artisan bakery, greengrocer, cafe and art gallery. The Bell has a pop-up fishmongers on a Saturday. A Michelin starred restaurant is within 15 minutes drive www.thecurlewrestaurant.co.uk.

An excellent base to explore the many National Trust properties in the area such as Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Bodiam Castle and Batemans. Other local places of interest include Bedgebury Forest (home to the National Pinetum plus extensive cycling trails and Go Ape), Pashley Manor Gardens, Hush Heath and Chapel Down Vineyards. The spa town of Tunbridge Wells is a 20 minute drive, and Camber Sands and the Cinq Ports town of Rye are 40 minutes drive away.

The village of Wadhurst is a 10 minute drive away, offering a variety of shops including a small supermarket, a butchers and an excellent wine merchant www.thesecretcellar.co.uk. Trains run from here to London in 1 hour. Wadhurst station is served by a bus running through to Ticehurst making it possible to come and stay at Bakers Farm Oast without the need for a car. For those arriving by car, the property is just 35 minutes from J5 of the M25.
