Accommodation overview: Beckside Cottage is one of a group of pretty fishermens cottages positioned several metres back from the slow flowing tidal beck, right on the harbour side in the charming seaside village of Staithes. The beck still provides mooring to several Cobles (local name for the regions fishing boats) in a web of ropes and buoys. It has uninterrupted sea views of the bay and out to sea and is surrounded by high craggy cliffs at the side and rear of the property. It has recently been fully renovated into a spacious, modern 3 bedroomed property. In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Galatea at Whitby Lighthouse.
Galatea (with accommodation for 5 guests) is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse, which lies on the East Coast just outside Whitby and close to the North Yorkshire Moors.
The High Cliffs of the North Yorkshire coast hide a number of small ports, the most significant of which is Whitby. Captain James Cook was apprenticed to a Whitby shipowner and made the first of his voyages of discovery (1768-1771) in a covered Whitby built 'cat' - a small ship rigged collier renamed 'Endeavour'. Whitby's skyline is dominated by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on Whitby's East Cliff and spreading below, a maze of alleyways and narrow streets running down to the busy quayside and harbour entrance. To the south lie the coastal villages and resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Inland lie the heather moorlands of the North Yorkshire Moors and, further afield, York.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Accommodation overview: As the name suggests, Beach Villa is a delightful detached beach house with white painted floorboards, bright coloured furnishings and wall decorations and a truly perfect location for a beach holiday. The majority of the accommodation is on the ground floor, with access to a neat enclosed garden and a spacious elevated decked patio with bench/tables, a barbecue and boasting simply the most spectacular views over the beach and out to sea. The first floor is accessed by a quirky "paddle" wooden staircase which is steeper than normal, and leads into an unusual bedroom with limited headroom in certain places - most suited to children and teenagers.Both the lounge and dining room enjoy bay windows complete with window seats enabling you to simply relax, unwind and breathe the fresh sea air.
