Accommodation overview: A charming 18th Century cottage situated in the pretty village of Stainton, ideal for a romantic retreat. Gibson cottage was built in 1720 and oozes character, with beamed ceilings, stone flagged floors and a centrally located open fire which opens into both the lounge and the kitchen. Stainton is only 1 mile from Penrith and the M6, so is easily accessible, yet close to Ullswater and centrally located to explore the Eastern Lakes or visit Scotland and the Eden Valley. Stainton has the benefit of a village shop, a farm shop, a hotel and restaurant and a pub, all within a few yards of the cottage. Harwood Cottage is a recently renovated, period stone built property dating back over 200 years situated in the stunning village of Hovingham.
The village is situated on the edge of the Howardian Hills in Ryedale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but only 17 miles from the city of York. The coast at Scarborough is 32 miles, with Whitby a little further at 37 miles. The North Yorkshire Moors are also within easy reach. Many local attractions including Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey and Terraces and the market towns of Helmsley and Malton (9 miles away) with its mainline train links to London.
The village itself has a bakery/cafe, the Worsley Arms Hotel serving an A La Carte menu. The Malt Shovel Pub serving bar meals as well as an excellent village shop and hairdressers are all within easy walking distance. For those that enjoy fish and chips, a local fish and chip van does come to the village on a Tuesday evening. The village also offers a tennis court, bowling green and playground and a good variety of walks through the beautiful local countryside. There is also a wonderful farmers market the first Saturday of each month in the village.
