The cottage also has a fitted kitchen with dining area and a first floor sitting room, which offers the sofa bed and also has an electric fire. Outside, this cottage has off road parking for two cars, a gravelled seating area with furniture and BBQ and shared use of a hot tub, which is available between May and the end of September. Montgomery town boasts a ruined 13th century castle (free entry and a perfect place for a picnic with spectacular views!); the Old Bell Museum of local history; two excellent tea rooms with delis; pub and Dragon Hotel bar; The Chequers Michelin starred restaurant and small supermarket (stocking local produce) with ATM; organic and homemade produce available at the Thursday and Saturday morning markets. Take a look at the ‘Taste Montgomery’ website for details of Tasting Trails in and around the area, sampling many of the delights of local produce. Other local attractions include Glansevern Hall Gardens and renowned Potting Shed Cafe, Gregynog Gardens and cafe, Powis Castle (NT) and Kerry Vale’s very own vineyard with tastings and vineyard tours.
Rail stations are at Welshpool and Newtown, (20 minutes away in either direction) where there are a range of shops including major supermarkets. Regular bus services to Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Newtown run from Montgomery, and further afield are the historic market towns of Bishop’s Castle, Ludlow (45 minutes) and Shrewsbury (45 minutes) each with an array of independent retailers and great selection of restaurants.
