Accommodation overview: An ideally located holiday property that is spacious, comfortable and close to the beach Southwold Denes - Southwold Denes stretches from Gun Hill to the harbour's mouth and acts as a vital sea defence for the town. Suffolk Coast and Heaths (to whom our customer's £1 booking donation goes) are working with several agencies to restore and maintain the important area. It is the home of skylarks and little terns (please be careful not to disturb the nests) and the habitat of sea holly, sea pea and bird's foot trefoil to name a few. Our properties here enjoy the sunrise over the sea and stunning sunsets over the marshes. Accommodation overview: Beautifully restored listed 17th century cottage overlooking the green in the village centre. Westleton is a pretty village midway between Aldeburgh and Southwold with the coast at Dunwich only two and a half miles away. It is centred around a large green and is one of the most popular places to stay on the Heritage Coast as it is an ideal base for the beach or for Minsmere, as well as the coastal heaths and forests. There are two good pubs, a restaurant and well-stocked village store cum post office, all in the village centre. Much of the area around the village is accessible open heath or mixed woodland. Appletree Cottage is a beautifully restored listed 17th Century cottage overlooking the green in the village centre. You will appreciate the carefully preserved traditional features, such as beamed ceilings, an inglenook fireplace and the original brick floor, combined with modern comforts. Orford is an attractive small town, dominated by the remains of a 12th Century castle keep - you may like to climb to the top to enjoy the panoramic views over the town and marshes. Sailing and boat trips are available on the River Ore, with country walks in Rendlesham Forest. It is only nine miles from the beach at Aldeburgh, with the historic towns of Framlingham and Woodbridge and the world-famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall also within easy reach. Accommodation overview: A delightful simple cottage just for two people in the seaside village of Dunwich. Dunwich is an unspoilt coastal village with a mainly shingle beach. The Ship Inn serves good meals as does the Beach Cafe which is well known for its fish and chips - enjoyed best on the beach. Dunwich adjoins Dingle Marshes Nature Reserve, Dunwich Heath (cliff top is National Trust owned) and Minsmere RSPB is only three miles by foot. Southwold and Aldeburgh are both ten miles away. Trains and buses can be found four miles away at Darsham. Church Farm Cottage, 5 minutes walk from the sea, is a basic, but pretty, single storey building situated to the rear of Church Farmhouse and the church itself. Denston is a peaceful village in rural West Suffolk, lying in the upper reaches of the Glem Valley. The 15th Century parish church of St Nicholas is one of the most beautiful in the county. Bury St Edmunds with its cathedral and Abbey Gardens is a short drive away. Lavenham and the historic wool towns are within easy reach, as are the antiques shops at Clare, Cavendish and Long Melford. It is an ideal location for a day out at Newmarket races, or trying your hand at punting in Cambridge. The National Trust properties at Ickworth and Melford Hall are well worth a visit and nearby Kentwell Hall holds many interesting events year round. Accommodation overview: Drift In is a traditional 'seaside' cottage, situated at the quiet end of the high street, yet within easy reach of the beach and a variety of shops. Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends.
