With two king size double bedrooms (one with ensuite facilities), one twin bedroom, an additional sofa bed in the lounge and a family shower room, this cottage can sleep up to eight people. The cottage also boasts a galley style fitted kitchen, a dining room with doors to a courtyard and two sitting rooms - one with a sofabed and the other with a woodburning stove. To the exterior of the cottage is a large lawned garden with a courtyard, decked areas, outdoor furniture, and a summer house with games and a tree house, as well as covered bike storage and off road parking for three cars. Laurel Cottage is a charming detached stone-built character cottage in the quiet village of Calbourne on the western side of the Isle of Wight. Dating back to the 18th century, and peacefully situated in the idyllic and tranquil location of Winkle Street, this self-catering holiday cottage is cosy, comfortable and well equipped. The perfect rural retreat.
There is a crystal clear stream that runs from the pond at Westover House gate lodge opposite along the length of Winkle Street and beyond and is full of wild flowers and is a magnet for wildlife such as kingfishers, red squirrels and ducks.
Calbourne is on the edge of Brighstone Forest, and there are numerous footpaths within the forest and up to the downs that rise over 200m offering breath-taking scenery down to the sea and the chalk cliffs of Freshwater Bay beyond.
The Isle of Wight is one of the UK's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and covers approximately half of the island and includes Calbourne. It is easy to see why most of West Wight is designated as an AONB with its unspoilt beaches, rolling countryside and picture perfect views.
There are more than twenty beaches around the island including several award-winning beaches. The closest beaches with Quality Coast Awards are Totland Bay, just 7 miles or 20 minutes by car and Colwell Bay, with its long sandy beach and stunning views out to the western Solent. The nearby Compton Bay (5 miles), one of the Telegraph's 'Britain's Best Beaches for 2011', is well worth a visit with its huge deep-red sandy beach and magnificent sunset views. The bay also offers good surfing as well as fossilised dinosaur bones and footprints.
There are numerous attractions for children and sporting enthusiasts making Laurel Cottage an ideal base for an outdoor holiday break to explore the Isle of Wight.
There are numerous pubs (many of which have good play equipment) and restaurants offering a wide range of meals, from the local pub, The Sun Inn (500m) catering for families, The Trendy Coast Bar in Cowes to The George at Yarmouth offering contemporary brassiere style creations making an evening out a really special occasion!
The Isle of Wight can easily be reached with frequent services from Lymington, Portsmouth or Southampton. Booking is essential to get the best prices and to avoid any delays.

Cliff Cottage is the original brick cottage of Gurnard village and is situated 60 metres from the water's edge, the beach and the island's coastal path, with an easy 2k walk along the sea front to the world famous sailing town of Cowes.
The cottage is in classic early 19th century style, detached and double fronted with a delightful kitchen garden and two additional 'secret' gardens, a summerhouse, sun terrace with outside eating patio and barbecue. The cottage has recently been fully refurbished to a high standard with all new fixtures and furniture.
Gurnard village is a very desirable location on the island and home to the island's best pub, the Woodvale, as well as the Watersedge Cafe and a dinghy sailing club. It is only a short walk to the playground, local shop, cash point, newsagent and the Little Gloster restaurant. Cowes is home to many individually styled shops, a fishmonger, butcher, artisan bakery and wine shop. In all, everything you could possibly need for a perfect getaway.
The Isle of Wight is easily accessible from the mainland from various points including Lymington, Southampton and Portsmouth.
The island has everything from beautiful hills and downs to walk or cycle, coastal paths to explore, every type of watersport possible, bike and horse trails, woodland and forests and of course beautiful beaches and bays around its Jurassic Coast.
For the grown-ups, the island boasts award-winning vineyards, a cider barn, a lavender farm, crab shacks plus the famous Garlic Farm and Minghella's ice cream!
