The perfect rural retreat.
There is a crystal clear stream that runs from the pond at Westover House gate lodge opposite along the length of Winkle Street and beyond and is full of wild flowers and is a magnet for wildlife such as kingfishers, red squirrels and ducks.
Calbourne is on the edge of Brighstone Forest, and there are numerous footpaths within the forest and up to the downs that rise over 200m offering breath-taking scenery down to the sea and the chalk cliffs of Freshwater Bay beyond.

The nearby Compton Bay (5 miles), one of the Telegraph's 'Britain's Best Beaches for 2011', is well worth a visit with its huge deep-red sandy beach and magnificent sunset views. The bay also offers good surfing as well as fossilised dinosaur bones and footprints.
