The Elan Valley Trail is a particular favourite with its surfaced paths which follow the route of the old railway ideal for walkers and cyclists with cycle hire available at the visitors centre. For keen anglers there are 850 acres of wilderness water with an abundance of wild brown trout. Further afield is Rhayader the first town on the River Wye and said to be the oldest in mid Wales and Powys Castle a medieval fortress perched high on a rock above its world-famous garden terraces.
