Accommodation overview: Situated on the attractive Mere Hall Estate, close to Tatton Park, these three holiday cottages make an excellent base for touring Cheshire and the surrounding area. Approached by a road through the estate, they form part of the former stable block, now sympathetically converted, retaining their original beams, to provide comfortable accommodation. Park View and Wall Cottage each have French doors to an enclosed grassed area, while Courtyard Cottage offers first floor living accommodation. A short drive away is the National Trust’s Tatton Hall and Tatton Park, one of the most complete historic estates in England, encompassing lakes, gardens, Victorian maze, mansion, medieval hall and working farm, and forming an ideal setting for the very popular RHS Flower Show each July. Other historic houses of interest include Arley Hall, Dunham Massey (NT), Quarry Bank Mill at Styal and Gawsworth Hall. For bird lovers, the Bird Garden at Mobberley is a must, as is the Falconry Centre at Monks Heath. A little further afield Biddulph Grange Garden (NT) boasts exotic themed areas, rock and water features. Rich in heritage, the nearby town of Knutsford, with its network of narrow alleys home to many antique and specialist shops, boasts an array of excellent restaurants, as well as an interesting Heritage Centre where visitors can learn about the town’s past. Manchester is easily accessible, with fun family days out at Castlefield Visitor Centre and the Museum of Science and Technology, as well as superb shopping at the Trafford Centre. Chester Zoo and Jodrell Bank are also sure to delight adults and children alike. Good walking in the area, with heathland around Knutsford offering pleasant afternoon strolls, and the beautiful scenery of the White and Dark Peaks within easy driving distance. Shop 1 mile.

It is the perfect base from which to explore the Central and Northern Lakes, with excellent walking and cycling from the door and many other outdoor activities are within easy reach. The front garden looks over the Solway Firth to the Scottish Hills and has the most spectacular sunsets. The beach is great for dog walking and extends for miles in either direction, with Silloth to the north and Allonby to the south. These 2 quaint seaside towns each have amenities, including leisure facilities, restaurants, pubs and shops and the Lake District is 30 minutes drive. Set in Clappersgate within a small complex, just off the road between Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge, at the entrance to the Langdale Valley, Halfway House is in a super position for exploring, with an abundance of walks and cycle paths from the door. The gardens are particularly tranquil and we are sure that every opportunity will be taken to holiday outdoors.
