There is a wealth of exposed timber beams, solid wood doors and original stonework, which gives the cottage great character. Swallows Barn is situated at Seat Farm, Howtown 400 yards from the northern shore of Ullswater, beneath Barton Fell and High Street. You can catch the Ullswater Steamer nearby, with various drop off points around the lake. For that special occasion you can dine at the renowned Sharrow Bay Hotel, which is only 5 minutes walk. The Ullswater Yacht Club is directly opposite, weekly membership can be purchased if you wish to bring a boat, please contact direct- , it also has a private bar. Butterwick is a particularly tranquil area of The Lakes with footpaths and bridleways leading from the doorstep. Ullswater is 5 miles and Haweswater 3 miles with walks directly onto High Street and Harter Fell.

Carhullan was completely modernised in 2008 by the owners, who retained the character of the property and complemented it with furnishings and equipment of the highest quality. The location of Carhullan, two miles from the village of Bampton and eight miles from Penrith is a perfect peaceful retreat, yet only 15 minutes from the M6. It is accessed along a no through road where it is situated at the very end, approximately two miles. There are walks from the doorstep, over High Street to Ullswater and across Bampton Common to Haweswater. Bampton has a village tea room with shop and the Mardale Inn serves good food and real ale.
