Accommodation overview: Set in 45 acres of beautiful countryside and woodlands surrounding the Friars Carse Hotel these three very comfortable cottages enjoy all the gorgeous views peace and seclusion their location affords yet are just a two minute stroll from the hotel's bar restaurant and panelled snooker room. Running through the estate is a private mile long stretch of the River Nith where salmon sea trout brown trout and grayling may be caught in season and the lovely formal gardens are a delightful spot for a gentle stroll whilst the wider grounds provides plenty of scope for more energetic rambles. Shooting and golf are available nearby and can be arranged in advance through the hotel.
The Solway coastal area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor pursuits including mountain biking cycling and wild life spotting as well as glorious beaches and a host of visitor attractions. Art lovers should head to the world renowned collection at Drumlanrig Castle and a trip to Threave Castle on its island in the River Dee is a must. At Dumfries (6 miles) visitors will find a good selection of shops an indoor swimming pool and sports centre whilst Castle Douglas boasts a great choice of local produce and speciality food shops. Ellisland Farm (8 miles) former home of the poet Robert Burns is where he wrote Auld Lang Syne and closer to hand Friars Carse has its own Burns Hermitage. Shop 1 mile.

Accommodation overview: The delightful harbour village of Maidens situated on the largely unexplored coastline of south-western Scotland and just 1½ miles from magnificent golf at Turnberry is the enviable location for this lovingly restored fisherman's bothy. Boasting its own private decked sitting out area it is surrounded by the owners' pretty garden complete with pond whilst the harbour village green and coastline abundant with birdlife are almost on the doorstep. Close by Culzean Castle is well worth a visit as are Souter Johnnie's Cottage at Kirkoswald and the Burns National Heritage Centre at Alloway. Trips to the island of Arran depart from Ardrossan and day trips to Northern Ireland from Stranraer are easily possible. Troon is 20 miles. An excellent restaurant is within a short stroll and Maidens has a village shop.

Accommodation overview: In an idyllic peaceful location, with wonderful unspoilt views over the countryside, this pretty semi-detached cottage enjoys a degree of remoteness, some three miles from the main road but is still within easy reach of nearby Thornhill, Closeburn, and a little further afield, Dumfries. This is a horse rider's paradise with stables adjacent and stabling available at an extra charge if you want to bring your own horse. The quaint property is bright, airy and very homely and is the ideal base for a sporting break or just a relaxing week in front of an open fire.
Drumlanrig Castle is a short drive away, and houses a famous art collection, including works by Rembrandt and Leonardo as well as offering a great family day out with an adventure playground and 7 STANES mountain bike trails at AE forest (2 miles). Bikes can be hired at Drumlanrig and tuition is available. There is loch fishing just 1 mile from the cottage and salmon fishing in the Nith. Falconry lessons and Vintage Car Hire can be organised at a nearby hotel, only a couple of miles away. Hillwalkers make the most of the Southern Upland Way and golfers alike are well catered for. There is pleasant walking on the estate the gamekeeper can arrange fishing (extra charge) whilst a nature reserve lies at the river mouth just south of Ballantrae (4 miles) and the Galloway Forest Park offers superb cycle trails. Accommodation overview: These four holiday cottages on a 200 acre working farm and enjoy panoramic views over the Firth of Clyde to Ailsa Craig, the Mull of Kintyre and the Antrim mountains of Northern Ireland. 1/2 mile from the ancient fishing village of Ballantrae and 15 mins. drive from Girvan, a popular seaside town, the farm includes 1 1/2 miles of beach and seashore accessed by a short path from the main road below the cottages, perfect for walking and swimming. Local facilities include fishing, golf, sailing and horse-racing at Ayr. Shops and pub 1/2 mile.
The cottages stand near farm buildings at the top of a small incline, 300 metres from the road, with safely enclosed gardens to the rear for which garden furniture is provided.
