Cowfold has a village shop, PO and pub serving food all within 300 yards, and it is a very easy drive to the market town of Horsham, with theatre/cinema, leisure centre and plentiful restaurants, inns and shopping centre. There is also a train service in Horsham to London Victoria in less than an hour and Gatwick Airport is about half an hour’s drive. The property also benefits from its close proximity to Brighton with the Royal Pavilion, pier, marine centre, art galleries, the Lanes, theatres, marina and various seaside entertainments.
This is an ideal location to explore many local attractions, including NT homes and gardens such as Leonardslee, Wakehurst Place, Nymans, in addition racing at Hickstead, Lingfield, Epsom and the South of England Showground. The M25 provides easy links to Chessington Zoo, Hampton Court Palace, Thorpe Park, Leeds or Hever Castles, Bletchingly or Chartwell, and also within a short drive is historic Lewis, and Newhaven with ferries to France. The seaside resort of Worthing is also easily reached. Other places to visit within easy driving distance include Glyndebourne, Devils Dyke, The Bluebell steam railway, historic Arundel with its castle, cathedral and Wild Fowl and Wetlands, and Chichester with its beautiful cathedral and Goodwood races. The holiday cottage overlooks open water meadows to the rear yet is only a 2-minute walk to the centre of town with its range of shops, wonderful pubs and fine places to eat. The riverside garden has 100 feet of private river bank with fishing rights and views over the river to the nearby thatched pub, the Fish Inn. Accommodation overview: Peacefully situated and enjoying splendid views over the local countryside, this spacious detached house is placed back from the quiet village road. It has been skilfully refurbished to a good standard, and makes an ideal holiday destination for two families or one extended family. Pett is a charming village, with a post office/shop (open Monday to Friday), butchers’ and two pubs serving excellent food.
The unspoilt shingle beach, about a mile away, is good for rock pooling and fossil hunting. It is also a haven for birds and there is a public hide at Pannel Valley Nature Reserve near Pett Level. The sandy beach and dunes at Camber are a short drive away. Also nearby are the picturesque village of Winchelsea and the medieval town of Rye with its many antique shops, tea rooms, historic inns, fine restaurants, and 12th-century tower. Here there is also a museum housing a number of relics from Rye’s past, and a lovely art gallery that houses temporary exhibitions by local artists as well as a small permanent collection of works by artists associated with Rye.
This a popular holiday place all year round with plenty of sites to visit locally, including Battle with its abbey ruins, Hastings with its 1066 links and smugglers’ caves, and Tenterden with its steam railway. There are also many National Trust houses and beautiful gardens within easy reach, including Bodiam Castle, Smallhythe Place and Batemans. Ashford, 30 miles away, offers day trips to France by Eurostar. Alternatively there is a ferry crossing at Dover. There are many scenic walks in the area, both coastal and inland, and it is common to see ramblers in the village, mostly heading for the popular pub! Also locally, there is golf, riding, cycling, sea and freshwater fishing. Post office/shop opposite.

Charming, this Grade II listed Victorian villa was built in 1842, and boasts a 1/3 of an acre walled garden.
Detached, it is just half a mile from Ventnor – a largely unspoilt Victorian seaside resort, where attractions include the Botanical Gardens and several museums. Nestling beneath the 800 ft St Boniface Downs, this small town is built on a series of terraces and is protected by steep surrounding hills, with its roads zig-zagging down to a sandy beach; Woodlands is perched on the edge of one of these terraces commanding uninterrupted views of the English Channel from the garden and every room.
In addition to Blackgang Chine and the coloured sands of Alum Bay, there is a vast array of attractions within a 30-minute drive. There are local, as well as island-wide, facilities for tennis, golf and riding, and miles of spectacular cliff and downland walks. Two Heritage Coast footpaths follow the best of the shoreline, one running from Totland to St Lawrence on the south coast, the other from east of Yarmouth to west of Cowes along the north coast, each taking in a surprising variety of landscapes and coastal scenery.
For formal dining, the Royal Hotel, where Queen Victoria occasionally took afternoon tea, is just 200 yards away. Only a 5-minute walk to the sandy beach, with its small boat slipway and haven, and close to the heart of the town – where promenade pubs serve locally-caught fresh fish dishes, it is perfectly placed for an Isle holiday. Shops 3/4 miles.
