Accommodation overview: This traditional 400 year old fisherman’s cottage with views over the Fowey estuary is in the perfect spot, having the Old Customs House and the former Old Post Office adjacent to the property.
The cottage entrance is at the top of some granite steps and the property is accessed via three steps down to a small landing. Through a door and down two further steps takes you into a delightful and comfortably furnished kitchen, dining area and lounge with fine views across the Fowey estuary. The cottage has been updated with all the modern necessities while keeping reminders of its antiquity. For example, the wall behind the hearth is exposed to show the ancient stone construction.
A stairway from the landing leads to the upper floor, where there are two bedrooms, each having an exposed stone wall. One small cosy bedroom is perfect for young children with a bunk bed. The main bedroom has a king size bed and wonderful views of the estuary. The separate family bathroom on this floor has a bath with electric shower overhead, WC and a basin. An additional one bedroom cosy studio annex, situated on the lower ground floor of Tucker’s Luck, is accessed via a separate stable door. The annex contains twin beds, a separate bathroom with handheld shower attachment over the bath, WC and hand basin, and an enclosed laundry area with Belfast sink.
Whether you are looking for a place to simply relax, or want a more active break, Fowey’s waterside location has much to offer. The town is well provided with shops, pubs and restaurants to suit all budgets. Ferries across the harbour to Polruan (passenger only) and to Bodinnick (car and passenger). There are seasonal passenger ferries to Mevagissey and boat tours from the Town Quay. Facilities for various water sports include sailing, canoeing and fishing. There is swimming at Readymoney Cove which can be reached by foot within 15 minutes and provides a sandy beach for children.
Fowey and the surrounding area caters for walkers The Southwest Coastal Path connects Fowey with Polperro and with Polkerris. Accommodation overview: Situated on the outskirts of the stunning natural port of Fowey and only half a mile from the sandy beach at Readymoney Cove, this comfortable attractive cottage, tastefully converted from a former mill, is tucked into one corner of a small group of stone-built cottages.
Set in over an acre of beautiful communal grounds with children’s play area, picnic benches and barbecues for all the visitors to enjoy, the property has the added bonus of its own private lawned garden area to the front and rear of the cottage.
Approached from the parking area, where there is one reserved space, a couple of steps and gently sloping path lead up to the fully-glazed low front doorway, which opens directly into a living room of great character with natural exposed stonework and a beamed ceiling.
There is a little dining area with pine table and chairs, a galley-style kitchen with light-coloured fitted units and one step leads up to a warm and cosy lounge with seating arranged before an electric coal-effect stove set in the fireplace and a fully glazed back door.
In one corner of the living room carpeted stairs lead up to the first floor landing, where is a bathroom with a W.C., hand basin and shower over the bath, along with two cottage-style bedrooms with pleasant garden views. One is a pine-furnished double bedroom with fitted wardrobe and the other is a children’s bedroom with two 2ft 6in single beds (more suitable for preteens due to the size of the room).
A low patio door opens from the lounge into a small rear garden with a gravel terrace and half a dozen steps leading up to a sheltered lawn with post and rail fencing and garden furniture overlooking the landscaped grounds. Pets must be supervised at all times, as should children when using the play area.
Fowey, half a mile downhill, is a charming waterside town with shops, restaurants, pubs and gift shops, and it is also half a mile by public footpath to the small sheltered beach at Readymoney Cove below St Catherine’s Castle. Pleasure boats leave from Town Quay during the season, there are lovely creek and coastal walks nearby, including The Hall Walk, a ferry crosses the harbour to Polruan and The Saints Way footpath can be taken from Fowey to Padstow on the North Coast.
Lanhydrock House and the Eden Project are a 15-minute drive away, and the picturesque villages of Polperro and Looe can be accessed by the Bodinnick car ferry nearby. There is also a seasonal passenger ferry to the fishing village of Mevagissey.
