A walk across the foot bridge takes you to the bustling market town of Wadebridge offering a wide choice of local shops and a variety of restaurants and cafes. Spend the day on the Camel Trail 17 miles of traffic free walking and cycling alongside the river. Bikes are available for hire in Wadebridge. A 5 mile bike ride from Wadebridge leads you to the Cornish fishing port of Padstow. The town is filled with galleries shops pubs and restaurants including Rick Stein s popular seafood restaurant and bistro. Ideally situated for touring the whole of Cornwall there are numerous attractions to suit all tastes including Crealy Adventure Park Newquay Blue Reef Aquarium The Eden Project and the house and gardens of Lanhydrock. The popular beach of Polzeath is a 5 mile drive away and Rock beach which is also close by is dog friendly all year round. Surfing spots include Newquay and Watergate Bay both within a half hour drive. Accommodation overview: 1 OF 4 COTTAGES SET WITHIN A NATURE RESERVE WITH SHEEP PONIES GOATS AND CATTLE These traditional Cornish granite cottages approached via a long private drive are set in 20 acres in the centre of Helman Tor Nature Reserve and overlook Redmoor with Helman Tor above them and Breney Common on the far side of the Tor. On the farm is a small flock of goats some Exmoor ponies and the nearest fields are grazed by Dexter cattle and further over by Belted Galloway cattle. There is a network of trails leading to all parts of the Reserve which are provided by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and a map of these is included inside the property folders and can also be found on the Trust s website. The Saints Way path which leaves Padstow and reaches Fowey passes the other side of the Tor where there is small car park. Close by is the National Trust Lanhydrock House with beautiful gardens and cycle tracks which connect to Bodmin and the Camel Trail Cycle Track. The Eden Project golf fishing and horse riding are nearby. The cottages have been converted from a range of old granite farm buildings dating back to the 1860s and many original features have been retained. Maximum use is made of sunlight through solar electricity generation and water and heating and ventilation systems. Each cottage is provided with a copy of The Saints Way a book describing the Way running from Padstow to Fowey past Helman Tor and other interesting landmarks of the Way. A low enclosed wall separates the cottages from the rest of the farm. Outside: shared enclosed lawn offers plenty of space for children to play. Some toys are provided along with a BBQ and seating. Accommodation overview: The larger of the two cottages sharing the same courtyard, this double glazed detached stone barn was once the farm grain store and has been carefully converted to provide comfortable family accommodation whilst retaining original features.
The front door opens to a small central hallway with a pleasant sitting room on one side with a high beamed ceiling, lounge seating and an electric coal effect fire set on a hearth created from an original mill stone. On the opposite side, a farm style kitchen/dining room has a run of pine fitted units and an inner hall leads to a ground floor shower room W.C. with hand basin and utility room, both of which can be accessed directly from the car port.
From the hallway, carpeted stairs lead up to a sunny first floor landing with rural views from French Windows, a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and three cottage style bedrooms. There are two bedrooms at the front of the property with a double and twin beds respectively enjoying sea views on the horizon towards long rock and a bunk bedded room at the rear with views over farm land and surrounding countryside.
With access from both the kitchen and external steps from the first floor landing, Dairylea benefits from its own enclosed rear garden with a private and sheltered patio with slate chippings and a raised lawn overlooking the adjacent fields.
