Accommodation overview: Balmore Cottage has been recently renovated and beautifully refurbished to make a lovely holiday home in the centre of Southwold Pier Area - It is often said that nothing changes in Southwold. However, the much acclaimed pier was rebuilt in 2001 and was the first to be constructed in England in over 50 years. It now fits in well with the painted beach huts, promenade and colourful flowerbeds. There is a shop, cafes and an alternative amusement arcade there. The selection of properties hereabouts makes it an ideal location to stay in Southwold if you require quiet accommodation that is also close to the beach, town centre and the many footpaths across the marshes leading you to the less explored areas of the town. Accommodation overview: This property has bags of character and is in a great location for the Coast and Broads. Rural setting and a village with some good amenities which include an award-winning fish and chip shop. Roughton provides an ideal base for exploring the coast and countryside of North Norfolk. The seaside town of Cromer is only two miles away and has a lovely sandy beach, pier with its own theatre and traditional seafront entertainment. The area is rich in history and heritage with many museums and fine houses including Felbrigg Hall, which is only one mile away. There are lovely walks to be found close by, ranging from National Trust parkland to cliff-top walks as well as along country lanes and footpaths. The village has a shop and pub, which serves meals, with further amenities available in Cromer.
The cottage is a charming 400 year old brick and flint constructed barn and former Dairy of the Flaxmans Farm complex and was once part of the Felbrigg Estate. Flaxmans is surrounded by tree-lined rolling hills. Dairy Cottage has been cleverly converted and is very original with its vaulted ceiling and wooden screen wall. Accommodation overview: One of eight beautifully converted barns in this outstanding location. Iken is a reputed base of Boudicca and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall. All of these properties have been converted from a range of former farm buildings (or byres) and now provide high standards of accommodation. Exposed brickwork and ceiling timbers have been retained to give interest. They are approached from the central yard, but have individual patios with low enclosure. The rear outlook is over farmland towards Tunstall Forest.
