Accommodation overview: The Old Rectory details
The Old Rectory in Norfolk is a luxury self catering holiday home which stands in its own parkland next to the church surrounded by open countryside, a mile from North Tuddenham. The original rectory dated from the 16th century and the poet William Cowper stayed here when he first came to Norfolk. It was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, younger brother of the architect of the Houses of Parliament, who designed it himself. The holiday home has been refurbished to provide a luxury self catering venue for family gatherings. It is easily accessed from the A47, half a mile away.
There is a pub in the village of North Tuddenham. Situated in the upspoilt rural centre of Norfolk there is much to see and do as it is ideally located for exploring the coast (35 minutes' drive), the Broads (30 minutes) and the historic city of Norwich (20 minutes). The Old Rectory is set in idyllic surroundings with grounds covering 12.5 acres. There are large areas of lawn interspersed with mature shrubs and trees. The grounds also include a west facing terrace, ideal for summer barbecues, a pond (this has been fenced making it childproof), and a children's football area with two goals. The Old Rectory is an ideal outdoor holiday break with its own wood: a pathway marked by an avenue of yew trees which leads to clearings planted with bluebells, foxgloves and primroses and ideal picnic spots. There is table tennis in the games room and an all weather tennis court in the grounds. There are riding stables nearby. Hempstead is a small, sleepy and pretty village just two miles from the picturesque Georgian market town of Holt with its selection of galleries, restaurants and independent shops. Surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Holt ridge, it is an ideal place to explore and is great for cycling, walking, bird watching, golf, sailing and fishing. The coast is only five miles away and the choice is quite diverse from the sandy beaches of Cromer and Sheringham, both Blue Flag, to the shingle of Salthouse and the marshes of Blakeney and Cley. The ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle can be found in the adjoining village; alternatively you could walk to Selbrigg Lake where the River Glaven rises. Little Fransham is set right in the heart of Breckland and Norfolk, an ideal location for exploring Norwich, King's Lynn and the North Norfolk Coast. The village is half way between the market towns of Dereham and Swaffham, both of which offer excellent shopping, restaurants and good sports centres. It is a lovely area for a relaxing holiday with many delightful walks and cycle rides through the countryside. The village has a pub which serves food, and there is an excellent bus service on the main A47 road. Lyons Green is a lovely, spacious country house, situated at the end of a little lane, shared only by Little Flint. It is in a truly idyllic position overlooking its own beautiful grounds, including two lakes, where fishing is available at extra cost. Riverside Cottage is the end terrace of a converted watermill on the banks of the River Waveney on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.
