Dairy Cottage and Well Cottage (property 379) are skilfully converted from 19th Century brick and flint farm buildings. Accommodation overview: Traditional barn in a unique location overlooking the tidal Alde Estuary. Iken is a reputed base of Boudicca and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall. Bay View Barn is the ground floor (First Floor Estuary Barn (sleeps 4) ) of this traditional brick and tile barn, which no longer contains the Suffolk Punch horses that worked the surrounding farmland. The barn has been totally rebuilt retaining the many exciting original features, including the impressive floor beams in the ceiling of the property. Vicarage House is a square, Georgian, pale brick Norfolk holiday house situated in very extensive grounds. It has a walled garden with large borders, a parterre, a small arboretum and paved terraces with garden furniture on three sides for the capture of sunshine at all times of the day. There is a hard tennis court and an outdoor swimming pool (heated 1st April to 30th October). This luxury holiday rental has a large games room containing a table tennis table, sofas, armchairs, a TV and DVD player and other games. There are also nine adult bicycles and four children's bicycles for use.

There is much to see and do in this area of Norfolk. Great Hockham is in the centre of the Brecklands, an area of environmental sensitivity. A perfect choice for an outdoor break, within 500m of the holiday house is Thetford Forest Park, 50,000 acres of woodland offering bike and walking trails. Within the Forest is a high wire forest experience. In close proximity to the house is the Peddars Way, a Roman road which joins the Norfolk Coastal Path providing 96.5 miles of walks through National Nature Trails. This consists of leafy paths and tree-lined trails.

The village of Great Hockham has a public house and local shops can be found at Watton, a market town six miles away. The Georgian Norfolk town of Wymondham is a 15 minute drive and offers a variety of boutiques and gift shops. Norwich is 25 minutes by car as is the Georgian town of Bury St Edmunds. Newmarket, with its two racecourses and busy racing calendar, is a 30 minute drive. The famous beaches of Brancaster and Holkham are about 30 miles away. The historic houses and gardens of Norfolk are within easy reach.

The coast is only five miles away and the choice is quite diverse from the beaches of Cromer and Sheringham to the shingle of Salthouse and the marshes of Blakeney and Cley. The ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle can be found in the adjoining village, alternatively you could walk to Selbrigg Lake where the River Glaven rises.

White Horse Cottage is a charming end of terrace, brick and flint cottage in an elevated position in the village and backs onto open fields with lovely views. Whilst retaining its character it offers modern facilities and accommodation which is very comfortable.
