There is a very good delicatessen, smokery, pottery, gallery, bookshop, a restaurant and two pubs, which serve meals, in the village with further shopping and dining facilities available in the pleasant town of Holt just four miles away. Accommodation overview: A newly renovated four bedroom holiday home in Dunwich which has been refurbished to the highest standards Dunwich with its intriguing past, which is revealed in the local museum (across the road from the house), is a unique village offering peace and tranquillity. There are also the remains of a leper chapel by the church and a monastery. The beach is shingle but at low tide it is partly sandy. There are many scenic pathways across the heath to the coastguard cottages and national trust tearooms. Amongst the numerous trails leading from Dunwich is one to Walberswick and on to Southwold via the ferry or bridge. The whole of the heritage coast offers excellent walking and stunning beaches to explore. Seadrift is a newly renovated four bedroom holiday home in Dunwich. It has been totally refurbished to the highest standard with ensuite bathrooms in three of the bedrooms and a family bathroom directly adjacent to the fourth. Accommodation overview: Traditional barn in a unique location overlooking the tidal Alde Estuary. Iken is a reputed base of Boudicca and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall. Estuary Barn is the first floor (ground floor Bay View Barn (sleeps 6) ) of this traditional brick and tile barn, which no longer contains the Suffolk Punch horses that worked the surrounding farmland. The barn has been totally rebuilt retaining the many exciting original features, including the exposed roof timbers. The barn has been arranged to provide exceptionally spacious and well-equipped first floor accommodation with all the main rooms overlooking the stunning estuary.
