Accommodation overview: A Victorian property in Aldeburgh only a few minutes from the shops and beach and having a footpath leading to the marshes and river Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends. Situated at the southern end of the town and within a few minutes walk of the shops, beach and sea, Fairfield Cottage is a refurbished Victorian property retaining some original features and giving a feeling of space. Accommodation overview: Stunning barn in outstanding location overlooking the tidal Alde estuary. Iken is a reputed base of Boudicca and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall. All of these properties have been converted from a range of former farm buildings (or byres) and now provide high standards of accommodation. Exposed brickwork and ceiling timbers have been retained to give interest. They are approached from the central yard, but have individual patios with low enclosure. The rear outlook is over farmland towards Tunstall Forest. Once the home of William Talman, architect of Chatsworth and Master of the Works to the court of James I, Felmingham Hall was built in 1569 and is one of the earliest examples of Elizabethan architecture in North Norfolk.
It stands in unspoilt countryside not far from the National Trust's Blickling and Felbrigg estates, and is an ideal location from which to explore the renowned coastline of Norfolk, only 20 minutes by car. The famous Weaver's Way network of country walks is a 10-minute stroll from the barns and the east coast just 15 minutes by car.
