Forming part of a building that once was the local school, the cottages collectively offer characterful accommodation for up to 12 guests but all in individual properties. Accommodation overview: Charlie's Cottage is a wonderful mix of old and new and if you are looking for the quintessenital English Country Cottage you need look no further. This lovely, cosy thatched cottage, which dates back to the Civil War era of the 1650s', has so much charm inside that we simply fell in love with it when we inspected it. Situated in a very quiet location within one of the northern Cotswolds most beautiful villages - Epwell, the cottage enjoys real tranquility and yet great access to the surrounding countryside. The village pub is sure to be a real appeal to those who enjoy the idea of a 'local pint', while the adventure playground is a firm favourite with the children. Internally the owners have mixed old features with new style with imagination to create a very cosy and welcoming holiday cottage that oozes charm and appeal. Collectively the cottage has so much to offer that we see it appealing to both families as much as it will to the 'weekend breakers'. Accommodation overview: The Lodge at Holycombe is a unique Cotswold holiday cottage set on the edge of the beautiful village of Whichford. Nestling amongst six acres of land, the property is an ideal retreat away from the stresses of hectic life in the city! Holycombe itself is set in a wooded valley where a natural stream rises from a holy well in the nearby wood, passes though the grounds and down a waterfall. (The sound of running water adds to the sense of peace and tranquillity.) A coppice provides shady outdoor space; there's a campfire area and a large stone circle on the castle site. Across a meadow is the ancient Whichford wood with many rare species of trees and plants, an abundance of wood anemones, primroses and bluebells in spring; chestnuts, blackberries and sloes in autumn. Wildlife abounds: everything from Muntjack to polecats and kingfishers. Sally and Andy Birtwell rescued the site from 40 years of being a scrap yard, dedicating 6 years of their life to the restoration. They have built a beautiful house and garden to honour the sacred landscape. Archaeologists have excavated a Roman conduit carrying water from the springs in the wood to the site and dowsers and geomancers have suggested it was a sacred site before Roman the occupation. They also believe that six leylines converge on the stone circle.
