Braithwaite lies 2 miles to the west of Keswick, which has many amenities from shops and restaurants to museums and the Theatre by the Lake. Whinlatter Pass and forest ascend from the village and are extremely popular with both mountain bikers and walkers alike. Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake are each within 2 miles with sailing and fishing opportunities.

It benefits from a stunning location, close to the shores of Ullswater, with a view of the lake and surrounding fells The ever popular village of Pooley Bridge is 3 miles, with shops, tea rooms and pubs serving bar meals. Accommodation overview: The Larches is a four bedroomed cottage at Seldom Seen in Thornthwaite, a truly tranquil location. Surrounded by woodland on the slopes of Whinlatter forest the cottage is a perfect away from it all retreat with the delight of visiting red squirrels. It has the most fantastic summer house (or belvedere) with a deck at the top of its fellside garden, which has chairs, table and lighting It has superb views across the Derwent marshes and to the distant fells. You can walk or cycle from the doorstep and sail on the lake at Bassenthwaite. There is an art gallery and coffee shop in the village and pubs, restaurants and a shop in the neighbouring village of Braithwaite and an abundance of amenities in nearby Keswick.
