There is a visitor centre on Whinlatter with Forest Trails and tracks for mountain biking and plenty of good walks on the fells surrounding Braithwaite, such as the Coledale Round and Grisedale Pike.

Located in the Rusland Valley, Thwaite Bridge House is a mere 5 miles from Newby Bridge and only 5 miles from Hawkshead so is ideally situated for exploring this delightful part of the Southern Lakes. Rusland and surrounding villages are very quiet with little traffic although popular with walkers and cyclists. The busier resorts can be reached within minutes by car or to avoid the queues, you could take one of the world famous steamers from Lakeside, only a short way from the cottage, to Bowness Bay or Ambleside and do your own bit for the environment too.

Accommodation overview: Situated in the middle of Threlkeld Village, Kiln how Cottage is fully modernised and refurbished to a high standard. The neighbouring property of Millerdale has the same owner and the 2 cottages may be let seperately or together for up to 11 people. Kiln Howe lies adjacent to Kiln How Beck in the centre of Threlkeld village along a short lane off the main street. Threlkeld sits at the foot of the mighty Blencathra, which can be viewed from outside the cottage, and lies just 4 miles to the east of Keswick and 15 minutes drive from the motorway. The Horse and Farrier public house and restaurant is within 100 yards and the Salutaion Inn, which serves bar meals, is approximately 200 yards. There is a footpath leading from the cottage directly onto Blencathra, which rises steeply above the village, infact there are so many walks locally your car may be parked up for the week. A shared garage with Millerdale provides secure storage for bikes.
