Gamblesby is a hidden gem surrounded by unspoilt countryside and lies in the heart of the Eden Valley. It has a set of stocks on the village green made at the end of the 18th century and last used to punish someone who had stolen a turnip! It is a 20 minute drive to the spectacular Lake District where there is so much to do and see. There is a wealth of visitor attractions and amenities within easy reach including South Lakes Animal Zoo the Rheged Centre in Penrith and Little Salkeld to name but a few. Outside: communal area for alfresco dining with BBQs and picnic tables. Amenities: ample parking. Bed linen towels electric central heating and Wi-Fi included. 2 well-behaved dogs welcome; dog sitting service can be provided by prior arrangement. Location: pubs and shops within walking distance. Arrival: 4pm. The accommodation is a beautifully restored granary offering ONE double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC. Lounge/kitchen/diner: lounge with TV and DVD. Accommodation overview: Sedbergh is set to the West of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the eastern fells of the Lake District, only 30 minutes drive from Windermere and is therefore ideal for exploring both areas of unspoilt and protected countryside. Sedbergh has a variety of narrow lanes and small clusters of old buildings including a 12th century Norman church (restored in 1886) and, overlooking the town, is the site of Castlehaw, an ancient motte and bailey castle. However Sedbergh has a new status, Book Town for England, and as such has a growing number of book shops, both new and second hand and is set to evolve over the coming months and years into a literary paradise.

Accommodation overview: Conveniently situated in the Lakeland village of Penruddock, which benefits from very easy access to the M6 and only 15 minutes drive to both Keswick and Ullswater. To the north of the village are quiet country lanes and villages which are great for cycling. Nord Vue Barn, as the name implies, was an 18th century barn which the owners converted to an extremely spacious holiday cottage, with the best of traditional and modern features. There is a village pub serving bar meals.

The location, just off the A591 is ideal for touring both the Lake and Dales. Staveley is a mile away and has a great selection of traditional pubs, most serving homemade food and local ales. Of course, your pet is also most welcome here at Burrow Cottage and plenty of opportunities for lovely long walks are on hand and for those anglers among you, Ratherheath Tarn, well stocked with carp, perch and bream is very close by.
