Accommodation overview: Meadowbank Farmhouse is a remotely located farmhouse situated within the Oxfordshire Cotswolds providing very spacious self catering accommodation absolutely perfect for large groups or families. The property is surrounded by open countryside (there are some barns, nearby where the owners live!) with enclosed garden areas for customer's use to the front and rear. Inside the property has large entertaining rooms, with an excellent kitchen/diner as well as two living rooms plus an extra kitchen. There are six large bedrooms, with one on the ground floor making it ideal for any members of the party with limited mobility. A very well maintained and attractive holiday property that is very well located many of the Oxford and Cotswolds attractions. Accommodation overview: Tithe Barn, Lyneham is a very large and spacious barn conversion that is a great choice for a family country holiday. Set on a working farm within a small Cotswolds hamlet, the barn has nearby access to the rolling countryside of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. The open plan living that the owners have created make it a real treat and clearly ideal for entertaining. Accommodation overview: The Lodge at Holycombe is a unique Cotswold holiday cottage set on the edge of the beautiful village of Whichford. Nestling amongst six acres of land, the property is an ideal retreat away from the stresses of hectic life in the city! Holycombe itself is set in a wooded valley where a natural stream rises from a holy well in the nearby wood, passes though the grounds and down a waterfall. (The sound of running water adds to the sense of peace and tranquillity.) A coppice provides shady outdoor space; there's a campfire area and a large stone circle on the castle site. Across a meadow is the ancient Whichford wood with many rare species of trees and plants, an abundance of wood anemones, primroses and bluebells in spring; chestnuts, blackberries and sloes in autumn. Wildlife abounds: everything from Muntjack to polecats and kingfishers. Set in six acres, Holycombe is built in the grounds of a Norman Castle, and has a water-filled moat, habitat for carp and dragonflies. Sally and Andy Birtwell rescued the site from 40 years of being a scrap yard, dedicating 6 years of their life to the restoration. They have built a beautiful house and garden to honour the sacred landscape. Archaeologists have excavated a Roman conduit carrying water from the springs in the wood to the site and dowsers and geomancers have suggested it was a sacred site before Roman the occupation. They also believe that six leylines converge on the stone circle.

Local InformationSomerton is delightful village steeped in history dating back hundreds of years with mentions in the Domesday Book and also links to William The Conqueror after the Battle of Hastings. The church in particular (a Grade One listed building) is relatively famous in local circles for its historical significance. Somerton is no more than 15 mins outside Woodstock, the very popular Oxfordshire market town and just 15 miles from the centre of Oxford. The village also enjoys superb travel links with Bicester train station (to London Marylebone) 10 mins drive away or Junction 10 of the M40 no more than 3 miles away. The village sits on the northern side of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds with the River Cherwell and Oxford Canal both meandering through the edge of the village and just moments from this holiday cottage. The meadows at the river are absolutely perfect for evening 'sun-downers'. There are many walks to choose from, right from your door. The very famous and very popular Bicester Shopping Outlet Centre (or Bicester Village as it is called) is 10 mins away if shopping is your thing. There are a variety of good pubs in the locality, but none in the village. Of particular note is The Falkland Arms in Great Tew, one of the prettiest spots imaginable.
