Amidships is situated close to the pretty village of Mevagissey and has been furnished to a high standard with welcoming, light and airy rooms. This ground floor cottage offers superb accommodation for six people and has four bedrooms - one single with ensuite shower, another single bedroom and two double bedrooms. There is also another bathroom, a well equipped fitted kitchen, dining room that leads to the music room and a sitting room that has an electric fire in a feature fire place. The music room leads out onto the large lawned rear garden that has a covered pond and furniture, which is perfect to dine and relax after a busy day exploring the area. The added bonus to Amidships is the fabulous outdoor swimming pool, which makes the cottage perfect for families or groups of friends. Mevagissey has many shops and pubs, plus a sandy beach which makes Amidships an ideal base to visit the many attractions nearby.

Brook Cottage (Cornwall) details

In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Brook Cottage at Trevose Head Lighthouse.

Brook Cottage (with accommodation for four guests) is one of four holiday cottages available at the lighthouse which is located on a headland between the sandy beaches of Harlyn and Constantine Bays, four miles west of Padstow. The Lighthouse was built in 1847, electrified in 1973 and automated in 1995. The site is not open to the public and the four cottages are sheltered beneath a headland and are 75' above the sea, accessed via a one-mile-long private road. There are fine views out to sea and the chance to watch fishing boats coming in and out of Padstow.

The cottages are semi-detached, with the lighthouse positioned in the middle. At the front, there is a communal tarmac forecourt with parking. To the rear, on the sea side, there is a shared walled grass area which is fenced at the cliff edge. (In the interest of safety, it is recommended that guests do not use this space). The South West Coast Path runs round the headland and on towards Padstow.

The picturesque fishing village of Padstow and its harbour is also home of the chef Rick Stein's seafood restaurant (book well ahead if you wish to secure a table), bistro and cafe. Harlyn Bay, on the road to Padstow in the lee of Trevose Head, offers surfing and a sheltered family beach with a wide crescent of yellow sand and rock pools and safe swimming (a lifeguard is on duty in the summer months). The Eden Project is a 30-minute drive away.

Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.

Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.
