A great base in this popular town. Wells is a popular town set behind a small harbour on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. It is possible to travel from the town by narrow-gauge steam railway to the sandy beach, which is backed by pine woods. The beach is one mile from the town and has a car park and tea rooms. It is an ideal location for a holiday at any time of the year and the area is famed for ornithology and has many excellent walks. Amenities in the town include amusements, great pubs, restaurants and many interesting shops. Curlew Cottage is a Georgian style three-storey town house. Laylands Cottage was the first building on the road to Wells-next-the-Sea and one of the earliest buildings in the 15th century town. It was originally built as an inn offering shelter to the drovers from the north bringing cattle and sheep to catch boats to the continent. The old settle where the drovers drank their ale still remains in the corner of the house.
Laylands Cottage enjoys an elevated position with views over a green belt conservation area. Not far ever, an old horse grazes in the field looking out beyond towards the Pinewoods and Wells beach. The house is detached with secluded front and rear gardens. The large rear garden, which is walled and south facing, has mature fruit trees and a large patio, perfect for outside dining.
The house is situated just a five minute walk from the harbour and the sea. Wells beach, with its famous white sand dunes and beach huts, is easily reached by a 15-minute walk through the pine wood. Laylands Cottage has recently undergone a complete renovation which is sympathetic to the historic heart of the house, but also encompasses all the conveniences for modern living.
Wells-next-the-Sea is an atmospheric Norfolk town set behind a small working harbour on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. The village of Mundesley is an excellent location for a seaside holiday. It has a wonderful wide beach by a small promenade and a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants.
