The village of Hickling is on the edge of Hickling Broad, which is the largest of the Broads and is popular for boating and windsurfing. The area is a haven for ornithologists, nature lovers and walkers, with beautiful countryside all around. Cyclists will love the quiet lanes, with a number of places offering cycle hire. Lovely sandy beaches can be found at Waxham and Sea Palling, which are just three miles away, and there is easy access to the whole of Norfolk's rich and diverse coastline. The village has two dog and family friendly pubs serving food and further facilities are a short drive away in Stalham. The Lawns - a large, late Edwardian/early Victorian double-fronted town house, situated within walking distance of the award winning Blue Flag beach at Sheringham.
Mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, the fishing town of Sheringham has an assortment of restaurants, shops and a twice-weekly market, all just a few minutes walk away. There is also a theatre hosting a variety of events.
Sheringham is the home of North Norfolk Railway, the Poppy Line, which offers steam train trips to the market town of Holt, as well as Weybourne and Kelling Heath Park. There is a Gala Day, held at the end of August, which features a range of locomotives.
Much of the North Norfolk coast has been designated as Area(s) of Outstanding Natural Beauty - guests can explore the area's many country walks and beautiful beaches. This is an area famous for birdwatching, especially in the winter months.
The market town of Holt is a short drive away and offers an array of individual shops, cafes and restaurants.
