Accommodation overview: A unique cottage with a fascinating history, a perfect holiday retreat nestling in the heart of Lynton. A complimentary parking permit is provided for nearby car park. The Smithy offers a special lower price for couples in low season This unique and fascinating cottage, steeped in local history, has been lovingly restored to provide a wonderful holiday retreat. Formerly a working Smithy many of the original features remain. The huge open plan living area with original oak beams and high vaulted ceiling is complemented by contemporary styling. Comfy sofas surround the fireplace with a log burning stove inviting cosy evenings, and a spacious dining area is ideal for leisurely breakfasts. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything you could need and more. A wide wooden staircase rises to the landing and on to the Minstrels Gallery where a half loft, originally used to store the iron, has been transformed into a unique double bedroom, open to the high vaulted ceiling and with a balustrade overlooking the living room below. A second compact double bedroom and a single bedroom with views over the town are found off the landing, together with an attractive bathroom. The Smithy provides guests with an opportunity to step back in time and experience the atmosphere of this genuine forge where Mr Bill Prideaux, working up to the age of 89, claimed to be the oldest blacksmith in the country. Today's visitors of course will be able to relax and enjoy their stay with excellent modern facilities and be ideally located right in the heart of Lynton with a choice of shops, restaurants and village inns nearby. Accommodation overview: CLOSE TO THE BEACH AND VILLAGE CENTRE A charming mid-terrace cottage positioned at the end of a short lane situated in the small coastal resort of Combe Martin you will be a 15 minutes stroll to the village s own harbour and sheltered sandy bay that offers spectacular views across the bay to the dramatic headlands and beyond and at low tide the large expanses of golden sands. The village also boasts a highly recommended 17th century inn Post Office bakery and a few small grocery shops. From here the South West Coast Path offers walks with breathtaking views to Baggy Point or Lynton and Lynmouth which are well worth a visit forming part of Exmoor National Park that is a short drive. Other family attractions in the area include Watermouth Castle The Wildlife and Dinosaur Park Exmoor Zoo and The North Devon Farm Park. Accommodation overview: HIDDEN AWAY COTTAGE WITH ESTUARY GLIMPSES This cosy cottage is literally tucked away in one of Appledore s narrow pedestrianised streets yet is a short stroll to the busy quayside with its variety of small shops galleries pubs and restaurants. The maritime museum is well worth a visit as it highlights the towns long history of seafarers and shipbuilding each room depicting a different aspect of life at sea. Thrill seekers can find plenty to do nearby whether it be surfing or body boarding on the golden sands at Westward Ho! Or having a go at kayaking abseiling or archery at Skern Lodge Activity centre based in Appledore and where activity days can be arranged. Alternatively if it is peace and quiet you are looking for then why not just meander through the little streets or gaze out over the estuary and watch the boats bobbing or toss a line into the river and try and catch a few crabs. Whatever you decide to do Appledore is a great place for a family holiday or short break away from it all. Just a few miles to the north, Exmoor National Park has something for everyone, walking, climbing, cycling or just enjoying a cream tea in the coastal resort of Lynmouth where spectacular cliffs plunge down to the sea. Adjacent to the owners own home we are delighted to offer four high quality stone built cottages, recently converted from the original farm buildings, using ECO friendly under floor heating and with excellent facilities. Overlooking the shared front lawned garden, each cottage has an individual patio with garden furniture. A special treat is the outdoor Jacuzzi Spa Pool which is available to all guests throughout the year.
